Drain cleaners all rely on water jetters and cable machines to clear clogs and obstructions. Finding the machine that fits your needs is a big part of the equation, but having the right attachments on the business end of your equipment is equally important. The following nozzles and root cutters will help you tackle any job.

Arthur Products PX Revolver G3
The PX Revolver G3 from Arthur Products is designed for the operator who not only must service a line, but have the ability to travel a long distance in the line. It has three additional fixed rear jets dedicated to generating thrust for long runs. The addition of the rear jets allows the rotor jets to focus on penetration, polishing and flushing. It is manufactured from high-grade stainless steel and is custom drilled to equipment. It is available in ¼-, 3/8- and ½-inch NPT. 800/322-0510;

Envirosight JetScan Mini
Deployed in pipes 6 to 10 inches in diameter, the JetScan Mini video nozzle from Envirosight gives sewer cleaning crews visual feedback to select the proper tools, troubleshoot backups, identify buried safety hazards, and document successful cleaning. It records up to 8 hours of 720p high-definition mpeg video to an onboard 32 GB SDHC memory card. The card is easily removed to view video on an iPad or other SDHC-compatible device. Twin high-output LED lamps ensure bright, vivid footage, and rechargeable lithium-ion batteries provide up to 4 hours of continuous operation. It is available as a complete system, or the standalone 6-inch nozzle can be purchased separately for use with a camera from an existing JetScan. 866/936-8476;

Enz USA Golden Jet 10.060A/B/CTR Turbine
With operating flows as low as 8 gpm at 2,000 psi, the Golden Jet 10.060A/B/CTR Turbine nozzle from Enz USA maintains high torque for pipe cleaning in lines ranging from 2.5 to 8 inches in diameter. Sealed bearings allow it to be operated with clean and recycled water, while remaining relatively maintenance free. It removes roots, grease, solids, mineral deposits, concrete and grout. The kit comes with a selection of pre-cut chains, skids, and two head styles. 877/369-8721;

Renssi pipe-cleaning tool
The Renssi mechanically rotated pipe-cleaning tool can be used for sewer cleaning and renovations. Depending on the size of the tool, it has two or more chains, with solid carbide inserts brazed on the chain links. There are two different types of connections to the rotating wire. The wire can be put through the tool and tightened using allen screws, or it can be connected using t-slot connectors. The inserts are effective in cleaning out rust and dirt. Tools are available in many different diameters, from 1 3/16 up to 8 inches.

StoneAge Warthog WGR Magnum
The Warthog WGR Magnum high-performance rotary sewer nozzle from StoneAge has speed control and seal technology for improved tool life, reduced maintenance and better operation in harsh environments. It effectively handles recycled water, retaining jet quality under poor water conditions, and its streamlined design allows for better forward and reverse movement through pipe. Hardened steel centralizer fins can be replaced individually as they wear, further protecting the tool for longer operation in the field. 866/795-1586;

Root Cutters

Chempure Products Root Rat
Root Rat cutting nozzles from Chempure Products are used with jetters from 11 hp to large truck-mounted models. The cutters are made of hardened stainless steel and come with a toolbox with two interchangeable rotors — one with cables and the other with chains. The combination kit includes extra chain, cable and bearings. They need no repair or rebuilding other than bearing replacement, which can be completed in less than two minutes for under $10 in parts. 800/288-7873;

NozzTeq 75 Series Lumberjack
Low-torque, variable-speed Lumberjack 75 Series 4- and 8-inch cutters from NozzTeq are powered by common sewer jetting or combination trucks. Their cutting chains rotate at speeds of 10,000 to 50,000 rpm, depending on pressure and flow rate. It cuts roots, but also effectively clears out concrete, tuberculation, grease, protruding laterals and other obstructions. Low torque means it won’t get stuck, won’t harm host pipe, and won’t spin off the hose end. Units are sealed, grease-lubricated and water-cooled so they don’t need daily maintenance. The cutter drive shaft and turbine are made of hardened steel, and the supply tube is made of stainless steel. The kit includes the turbine; water supply tube; chain plate/pull plate; tow ring; cutting blade; sleds; five sets of chain per sled size; ½-, ¾- or 1-inch propelling nozzle with jets and adapter; spanner wrench; hand tools; and a tool box. 866/620-5915;

Nu Flow Micro-Cutter
The pneumatic Micro-Cutter from Nu Flow can clean and remove calcite and roots from the inside of a variety of pipes, including steel, cast iron and Orangeburg. The system rotates at approximately 2,000 rpm and will negotiate turns of 90 degrees in pipes down to 2 inches in diameter. It runs at 40 cfm and allows for multiple cutting heads to be attached that can cut through dense corrosion and root intrusion. The drill tip has an adjustable spline available in various sizes to match different pipe diameters. 800/834-9597;

Southland Tool Mfg. Arrow
Arrow diamond-tipped cutters from Southland Tool Mfg. can be used on lines with a buildup of calcium carbonate tuberculation. The cutters bore into the center of the line and chip the hard deposits away with four diamond-segmented flutes. The material can be excessive, so slow cleaning is a must. The flutes are ¼-inch reinforced steel plate with a weld-on arbor for hydraulic root cutters. They are available for 6- to 15-inch lines. 714/632-8198;

USB – Sewer Equipment Corporation Turbo Chain Cutter
The Turbo Chain Cutter from USB – Sewer Equipment Corporation is made of tempered stainless steel, with a small, compact design that can navigate bends or curves in pipe. The chain retainer is driven by a high-performance turbine that helps remove roots, grease and mineral deposits in 4- to 6-inch sewer lines. The cutter requires low maintenance and no lubrication, and comes standard with ceramic inserts. It can be used with recycled water.  Carbide bits are available to be welded onto the chain. 866/408-2814;
