AHR Notes Day 3: Hands-On Trials Offered to Attendees
An AHR Expo attendee tries out the MegaPress XL in the Viega booth on Tuesday afternoon. The tool is new for the company and is used for large-diameter pipes.

There is no better way to find out if you like the equipment you are thinking about getting for your company than trying it out before buying.

At the AHR Expo this week at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago, attendees are getting that chance at several of the booths in the large convention center. In the Milwaukee Electric Tool booth attendees have many tool options to test out: power saws, drills, PVC cutters and new drain cleaning tools.

“It’s a great way to see if I’ll like it or not,” says Steve Ickle, of New Jersey. “I’m looking at offering a few new services this year and I’m just here trying to find out what would work the best and would be the easiest.”

On Tuesday, Ickle was trying out some of the new drain cleaning tools in the Milwaukee Tool booth.

Attendees visiting the Viega booth also got the chance to try out many of the company’s press tools and even the newest MegaPress XL, which can attach to drills to press large-diameter pipes.

Industry Award of Excellence

Ingrid Mattson, a senior brand manager for Uponor, was in shock and tears Tuesday after getting a video call informing her that she was this year’s recipient of the Carlson-Holohan Industry Award of Excellence presented by the Radiant Professionals Alliance.

The alliance says the award is given to those who keep the human race healthy, well and comfortable through selfless giving of time and talents, teaching and mentoring for the betterment of the industry.

Mattson is the first woman to be honored with this award.

The Show Wraps Up

Attendees will get their last chance to try out the tools today with the AHR Expo wrapping up. The show opens at 10 a.m. today and goes until 4 p.m.

The 2019 AHR Expo is scheduled for Jan. 14-16 in Atlanta, while the 2020 show is set for Feb. 3-5 in Orlando.
