Genesis HealthCare System, in Zanesville, Ohio, currently operates at two Zanesville sites, Genesis-Bethesda and Genesis-Good Samaritan. Bethesda Hospital, originally known as Zanesville City Hospital, was started in 1891 as a 12-bed hospital. Today, Genesis is the largest health care provider in its six-county region of southeastern Ohio. In May 2013, a groundbreaking was held at the Bethesda Hospital campus to begin expansion for a new state-of-the-art facility that will house all services on one campus location.

During the initial construction phase of the expansion project, many of the original cast iron and clay tile sanitary sewer and storm pipes were found to be in poor condition and in need of repair or replacement. The pipes consisted of 4-, 6- and 8-inch ID pipe with numerous fittings and branch line connections. The lines were located under the existing building that was being renovated. Excavation of the pipes would have been very costly and time consuming.

The initial phase required a Flow-Liner Systems certified installer to clean and prepare the pipes for lining and treatment. A Cured-In-Place-Pipe (CIPP) Lining System was installed in one storm pipe and 10 sanitary sewer pipes. The installer treated the two remaining storm pipes with the Flow-Liner Internal Pipe (FLIP) Treatment System.

The pipes were successfully lined and treated without excavation and disruption to the construction progress of the Genesis expansion project. The representative from general contractor TP Mechanical was pleased with the results and commented, “The crew was very professional and courteous. They did a great job for us in a timely manner. The pipe lining and FLIP treatment saved us from having to dig up and replace the piping, which would have been very costly and inconvenient.” 800/348-0020;
