The DXV collection of 3D-printed residential faucets by American Standard was a Silver award recipient at the 36th annual International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).

The Vibrato, Trope and Shadowbrook faucets were printed using a computer-guided beam that fuses powdered metal into the desired shape using high heat and pressure, and hand-finished.

“Winning the prestigious IDEA Award is quite an achievement and speaks volumes about the ambition, creativity and determination of the DXV product design team,” says Maha El Kharbotly, chief marketing officer of LIXIL Water Technology Americas, the global business unit under which DXV operates. “We foresee that 3D printing will have a major transforming effect on the building and construction industry. Our 3D-printed faucets represent the commitment of DXV to be a leader in this paradigm shift by designing products that will enhance the quality of consumers’ lives.”

The 3D-printed residential faucets were among 1,700 projects from 30-plus countries that competed in IDEA 2016.

WJTA-IMCA Expo Nov. 2-3 in New Orleans

The 2016 WJTA-IMCA Expo will be held Nov. 2-3 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. The trade show and educational program is dedicated to high-pressure waterjet technology and industrial/municipal cleaning, including water-blast cleaning and field services, paint/coating removal and surface preparation, concrete removal, industrial and municipal vacuuming, hydroexcavation and field cutting.

“Our goal is to help equip participants with the tools necessary to succeed in a competitive and challenging marketplace through educational programs, safety practices, equipment options, innovative live demonstrations and opportunities to connect with high-level contacts and build new relationships,” says Peter Wright, WJTA-IMCA association manager. “Industry professionals can see and learn about new robotic waterblasting equipment, safer and more ergonomic manual/semi-automated waterjetting equipment, and advanced vacuum trucks/hydroexcavators.

“The Future of Our Industry” panel discussion is a highlight of the educational program. Panelists representing contractors, industrial facilities and manufacturers will share insights into future challenges and opportunities.

“So much has changed in the hydroblasting and municipal cleaning industry in the past few years,” says panel organizer and moderator Kerry Siggins, CEO, StoneAge Inc. “The automation movement has inspired technology development. A laser-like focus on safety has instigated updates in plant and contractor safety practices and programs. Manufacturers are continuing to create solutions to address tough application and environmental challenges. And industry leaders grapple with change due to consolidation within the industry and a shrinking workforce pool.”
