Septic Systems + Get AlertsA recently failed chamber system in poor soil conditions at Víctor Hernández Building Elderly Housing in Puerto Rico forced the company to pump a holding tank weekly. This created a need for a higher level of treatment that would protect and preserve the permeability of the soil.
The company wanted a passive system that required low ongoing maintenance costs, provided a small footprint and had low upfront cost, while providing ideal treatment of wastewater that contains pharmaceuticals.
Sani-Plant of Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, chose the Advanced Enviro-Septic (AES) NSF 40 and BNQ Certified combined treatment and dispersal system from Presby Environmental with a Presby Maze septic tank insert. With the help of Presby’s technical team, they designed a 6,000 gpd system with an additional septic tank with a Presby Maze.
The purpose of the additional tank and Presby Maze was to increase the retention of the waste containing pharmaceuticals to allow the primary treatment to be more efficient. The AES system’s rigorously tested ability for high levels of treatment allowed it to be installed with only one bed totaling 5,609 cubic feet (39 1/2 by 142 feet), with an application rate of 1.07 gpm per square foot.
The project required 2,600 feet of pipe in a butterfly configuration with eight serial sections, saving the facility a significant amount of money and space. 800/473-5298; www.presbyenvironmental.com.
