Problem: Alaskan sewer contractor Construction Unlimited had successfully bid to clean four 800-foot runs of 12-foot steel pipe draining leachate from the Anchorage Landfill in Eagle River, Alaska. The previous year, a competitor had failed to clear even one of the four pipes after spending nearly a week on site. The hard deposits in the pipes proved to be too much to handle cost effectively.
Solution: Richard Herring, general manager of Construction Unlimited, contacted KEG Technologies, who recommended the DUCE, a vibrating rotational nozzle that impacts the deposits with its 6.5 pounds of weight, similar to using a sledge hammer to break concrete.
