The new year brought a slew of problems for residents of Boulder County, Colorado. First, wildfire ravaged the area, destroying  991 homes. That was followed a couple of days later by a storm that produced nearly a foot of snow and single-digit temperatures.

One of the results was plumbing problems. For the homes that survived, no electric or gas service in the immediate aftermath of the wildfire coupled with the freezing temps meant frozen pipes. Jason Patton, owner of Patton Plumbing in Denver, was one contractor who suspended his regular work to step up and help. A TV station chronicled some of his company’s efforts.
