Watts recently announced that nominations are now open for the 2026 Backflow Hero Award, an annual program recognizing individuals who demonstrate excellence in protecting drinking water through backflow prevention.

Now in its third year, the award is a key component of Watts’ broader efforts to elevate awareness and education around backflow prevention in advance of National Backflow Prevention Day on Aug. 16.

Backflow preventers play a critical role in safeguarding potable water systems, yet the professionals who install, maintain and enforce these systems often go unrecognized. The Backflow Hero Award aims to spotlight those individuals and the impact they have on public health and safety.

Watts is seeking nominations for individuals who exemplify leadership and commitment in the field. Nominees should demonstrate:

  • A passion for protecting drinking water
  • Innovation and creative problem solving
  • A commitment to education and knowledge sharing
  • Dedication to enforcing and advancing industry best practices

Eligible candidates include backflow testers and installers, municipal program administrators, code officials, trainers, distributors and others who play a direct role in backflow prevention efforts.

The Backflow Hero Award is part of Watts’ broader effort to bring more attention to backflow prevention and encourage greater participation in National Backflow Prevention Day across the industry. The company is working with partners across the industry to expand engagement and strengthen education around the importance of protecting drinking water systems.

Nominations will be accepted through June 30, with the recipient selected by a panel of Watts backflow experts.

The winner will be announced on National Backflow Prevention Day and will receive:

  • A commemorative award
  • A charitable donation made in their name to support water-related causes

The recipient will also be recognized across Watts’ digital channels, social media, and trade media.
