Pipe cutting system effective on aluminum piping

Pipe cutting system effective on aluminum piping

Problem: Cutting aluminum pipe material on site at the Blackhillock Substation in northern Scotland presented many challenges, including safety, efficiency and cutting accuracy. Finding a portable pipe cutting system that met those demands and was capable of cutting a multitude of pipe sizes was a challenge. The teeth of previous cutters generally became embedded with aluminum particles after the first cut, resulting in the need to continuously clean debris from between the teeth.

Solution: Exact Pipe Tools provided a demonstration of its 280E PipeCut system, which is light and easy to use and ticked all the right boxes in terms of safety, efficiency and accuracy of cut. In addition, the saw blade teeth don’t get clogged with aluminum particles during the cutting process.

Result: “After such an impressive demonstration, we did not hesitate to invest in this innovative portable solution for cutting pipe material, which we would highly recommend,” says site supervisor Roger Chatterton. 844/392-2800; www.exacttools.com.

Internal wrench enables plumber to remove broken shower arm

Problem: Jerry Johnson, a professional plumber in Southern California, had a problem trying to remove a busted shower arm without tearing into the wall. The shower arm had broken off even with the wall, and Johnson wanted to avoid opening up the wall to get to it.

Solution: Johnson used the BT12R blade-type internal wrench from D.O. Smith Plumbing Tools. It can be used to extract broken nipples and shower arms that are flush with the wall, without making the hole in the wall bigger. It comes in 1/2-, 3/4- and 1-inch sizes. It loosens and tightens, and can be used for chrome work.

Result: Johnson was able to insert the internal blade wrench into the broken shower arm and extract it in less than 30 seconds. “I would recommend this product to anyone who has a broken shower arm,” he says. “Don’t waste your time on the other stuff out there and don’t waste your money tearing up your wall.” 323/724-2665; www.dosmithplumbingtools.com.
