As commercial building requirements shift toward all-electric, high-efficiency solutions, the line between traditional HVAC and mechanical plumbing has increasingly blurred. The LG Multi V i, the latest generation of Variable Refrigerant Flow technology, has emerged as a critical tool for commercial contractors tasked with delivering complex climate and water heating systems. By integrating advanced AI with mechanical flexibility, it solves many of the logistical and operational headaches common in large-scale installations.

For mechanical teams, the Multi V i’s most immediate benefit is its design flexibility. With a compact footprint — offering up to 22 tons in a single frame — and piping capabilities, it reduces the physical labor and material costs of a project. The system supports a total piping length of up to 738 feet and significant elevation differences (up to 360 feet between the outdoor and indoor units). This allows teams to consolidate outdoor units on rooftops or in service yards without compromising the performance of indoor units on lower floors, a frequent challenge in high-rise retrofits.

“Building owners rely on HVAC solutions that deliver energy efficiency and occupant comfort across a variety of conditions,” says Doug Bougher, LG Electronics USA senior director of sales - Applied. “The LG Multi V i delivers these essential elements, equipping building owners with smarter operations that proactively adapt to the environment.”

The “i” in Multi V i stands for intelligence, which manifests in features like AI Smart Care and Auto Tuning. From a service perspective, these tools are transformative. During commissioning, the system’s AI can autonomously adapt to motor characteristics and optimize compressor balancing, significantly reducing the manual labor typically required for startup.

Beyond its efficiency and intelligence, Multi V i is engineered for consistent performance. It provides adaptive operation in extreme weather conditions from minus 22 up to 126 degrees Fahrenheit, helping deliver consistent climate control year-round. This precision comfort, along with targeted zoning and independent temperature controls, makes the Multi V i suitable for a variety of commercial facilities, including hospitals, schools, high-rise offices, hotels and airports. Its smart design offers a compact footprint, delivering more capacity with fewer units (22 tons in a single frame with a four-sided heat exchanger).

“This results in more granular control, reduced operational costs and a forward-looking climate control platform,” says Bougher.
