Michael Crowe isn't your typical plumbing company owner. With a master's degree from Harvard and a background in commercial real estate, he entered the trades out of necessity. Frustrated by the difficulty of finding reliable service for his large portfolio of apartment properties, he saw an opportunity. In 2015, instead of acquiring a business, he partnered with a group of 20 plumbers and HVAC techs looking to start on their own, creating Rezy Services to initially service his own holdings.
Diversification and growth
This episode of Plumber Cast details Crowe's strategic evolution from an internal service provider to a major player in the residential and commercial markets. Learn why he diversified into residential services, partnering with the Z PLUMBERZ franchise system to scale effectively. He discusses the key differences between commercial and residential work, from payment cycles to the types of jobs, and explains how he balances both to create a more resilient business model.
Looking ahead, Crowe is betting big on technology, specifically trenchless pipe lining, to drive future growth. He shares his strategy for acquiring smaller "tuck-in" companies and expanding into new geographic markets like Boston and New York. His ultimate goal is to build a large, employee-owned company where the tradespeople share in the success.
