Service businesses like plumbers and HVAC technicians often waste time (and money) troubleshooting customer problems on the phone. To address this problem, TapHero has launched a mobile app that enables those businesses to monetize one-on-one video chats with customers. The technology is comparable to telemedicine, but for service providers.
In the plumbing industry, TapHero offers an immediate way for plumbers to diagnose simple issues or walk customers through minor repairs, all without needing to travel to the client’s location. For example, a plumber could guide a homeowner through unclogging a drain or resetting a water heater via a video call, providing expert guidance in real time. This solution saves the client time and reduces costs while enabling plumbers to monetize their expertise even for minor troubleshooting that typically would not warrant an in-person visit.
“TapHero is unique because it allows service providers to leverage technology while maintaining full control over their customer relationships, pricing and branding,” says Paul Everton, co-founder and CEO of TapHero. “Essentially, TapHero transforms what used to be free advice over the phone into revenue-generating remote consultations, helping service providers streamline their operations while maintaining direct control over their business.”
Beyond plumbing, Everton says TapHero fits across multiple industries where remote consultations can be valuable, including electricians, HVAC professionals, auto mechanics and even niche sectors. The app is best suited for service providers who want to optimize their schedules, reduce unnecessary site visits and serve customers more efficiently, especially for initial consultations, diagnostics or minor issues.
“TapHero was developed based on feedback from tradespeople who expressed frustration over wasted time troubleshooting over the phone,” says Everton. “Many service providers mentioned giving free advice, yet still needing to schedule in-person visits for small problems they could have fixed remotely if they had access to a video platform. We also spoke with service providers who were missing out on revenue opportunities due to unoptimized schedules and frequent travel for jobs that didn’t require a physical presence.”
The platform is delivered on a software-as-a-service basis, so customers do not have to purchase computer equipment or install and maintain software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices.
“Providers appreciate the ability to generate income from interactions that would have previously been unpaid phone calls,” says Everton. “Many have noted how TapHero allows them to expand their reach, offering services to customers outside their usual geographic area since the consultations can be done entirely online.”
