Designed for heating systems, district energy, chilled-water systems and hot-water recirculation, the TPE-3 in-line pump from Grundfos features built-in sensors that monitor pressure and temperature. Wireless technology enables it to connect with up to four single TPE-3 pumps. 

“Connection to a parallel coupled pump is easily obtained with the built-in wizard or Grundfos GO, a mobile pump management application that can be downloaded to iOS or Android devices,” says Claus Gade, global product manager for Grundfos. “The pumps can be controlled jointly in cascade mode, alternating mode or duty/standby without the need for any other pump control unit.” 

The pump’s built-in heat energy meter monitors energy distribution and consumption, helping avoid system imbalances and excessive energy bills. Applications range from ground source heat pumping and solar use to heating and cooling in airports, hotels, universities, office buildings, shopping malls, hospitals and stadiums. Pump operation can be monitored in real time using a smartphone and the GO app. 

“Grundfos pumps with built-in heat energy meters allow you to continuously monitor flow and heat energy consumption wherever there is a pump,” he says. 

The pump can be used in non-condensing boiler systems for increased boiler protection and combined with an external temperature sensor that measures return water temperature. By adapting the flow in the bypass line, the pump controls the water temperature entering the boiler, ensuring the correct temperature is maintained at all times. 

The non-condensing boiler is one example of applications where the TPE-3 in-line pump can make a difference.
