It’s easy to get into a routine at work, but taking a step back from time to time to evaluate how you work can make you more efficient and productive. Learning best practices in customer service, staff training or deciding what tools to have on hand at the job site can make a big difference.

You’re busy and the idea of taking time to evaluate and learn new things might seem impossible. So don’t try to examine everything all at once. Divide the subjects you want to assess into daily, quarterly and annual reviews. I’ve listed examples below. Follow this schedule and you could really boost your business efficiency.

Daily: Assess and Restock Service Vehicles

Keep a standardized list of tools and products for each service vehicle and make that list available to your team for regular reference to ensure routine items are stocked and at the ready. Refer to the list at the end of each day and restock any needed items so that you are ready to go at the start of the next work day. Taking those few moments at the end of the day can go a long way in improving workday productivity.

Quarterly: Learn Something New

We all become creatures of habit in how we like to work, but taking the time to attend a class, trade show or webinar on new approaches to projects is a great way to learn better ways of doing things. Sometimes a new perspective can lead to a major impact. For example, taking a course or reading a book on social media marketing can provide new avenues for business growth and ensure you’re using social media in the most efficient and effective ways.   

Annually: Review Your Tools and the Latest Innovations

Reviewing the tools you use the most and what new innovations might have been made to them since your last purchase can be beneficial. With the rapid advances in technology, investing in new tools can enhance efficiency and improve productivity.
