Jason and Erin Birdsong, owners of JT Services in Claremore, Oklahoma, recognize that their community is their customer base and it’s very important to them that they give back by participating in activities and donating their time and resources. Team members are also involved. Some examples:
Every year the company does something for a foundation called Soldier’s Wish.
"One year we gave an entire septic system to a 99-year-old veteran’s widow,” Jason Birdsong says. “It was a sad story. She had very little income and hadn’t been able to flush her toilet in almost a year. It was an honor to be in a position where we could do that.”
They donate to local schools.
“We run different campaigns where for every water heater we sell in the month, we give $50 to the homeowner’s school of choice in our community,” Birdsong says.
The company also partners with the sheriff’s office on various activities.
“One time we did a ‘traffic-stop giveaway.’ Five days before Christmas, the sheriff’s office stopped 20 cars and gave them $100 Walmart gift cards.”
Erin serves as a volunteer deputy. She went through the police academy and can do anything a full-time person can, except she doesn’t get paid for it. The company offers free service memberships at their company for police officers, firefighters, teachers, veterans and active military.
“That is a huge expense we take on,” Birdsong says. “But we want to thank the people that have these thankless but necessary jobs. One thing Erin does is fill in for school resource officers when they’re gone, and the stories she tells about the school system, I don’t envy what those teachers have to put up with.”
