Cable Machines

Duracable DuraFlex

Hair clogs, wadded paper towels and grease buildup are enough to stop up a drain; tree roots are another challenge. DuraFlex cables from Duracable can help solve these problems. The cables, which are manufactured in the U.S., provide a balance between strength, hardness and flexibility, whether a sturdy 100-foot inner-core cable for tree roots or a hollow-core 50-foot drain cable is required. Duracable offers a full line of drain machines to put the drain snakes to proper use. Blades and accessories are available. 800-247-4081; www.duracable.com.

Electric Eel Model D-5

The Model D-5 from Electric Eel is a continuous cable drum machine for cleaning 3- to 10-inch lines up to 100 feet. The high-density polyethylene drum and belt guard will not rust or dent and holds up to 100 feet of 3/4-inch Tri-Max cable. Three sealed, heavy-duty ball bearings support the drum and thick-wall guide tube for extended wear. It is powered by a heavy-duty, 1/2 hp, capacitor-type motor to provide more torque. It has large, 10-inch solid wheels for easy maneuvering and stabilization while in operation. It has extra-strength, 1 1/4-inch steel tubing framework, five-position height adjustments on the handle, a wheel brake, continuous belt skids and a loading wheel built into the handle, GFCI on a 20-foot line cord, and an air-operated foot switch for easy operation. 800-833-1212; www.electriceel.com.

Ergo Auger drill gun

The Ergo Auger drill gun has reconfigured what the industry today calls a “pistol rodder” or “drain gun.” The design reconfigures the grip over the center of gravity and adds a uni-stand or single leg under the center of gravity, creating intelligently applied leverage. It literally takes the weight off the operator, allowing them to focus on the source of the clog rather than the effort involved in wrangling the tool, making it a back, shoulder and arm saver, as well as a timesaver for the tech. Drill units can be purchased from Ergo Auger, while package units including drill, drum and cable can be purchased directly from Gorlitz Sewer & Drain. 801-518-2114; www.ergoauger.com.

Milwaukee Tool M18 FUEL SWITCH PACK sectional drum system with CABLE DRIVE

MyTana M745 variable-speed workhorse

MyTana’s versatile M745 variable-speed workhorse is designed for tough obstructions in 3- to 6-inch lines, with options to also work in 1 1/2- to 2-inch lines. Its compact size, stair gliders and balanced weight make it ideal to navigate tight spaces. Armed with 100 feet of 9/16-inch, hollow-core cable, the system’s variable-speed drive lets the user throttle up to 300 rpm to negotiate turns, strengthen cleaning force, and expedite feeds and rewinds, and then reduce the revolutions per minute to tackle obstructions and debris. It includes Autofeed; and an optional Sinkline Cleaning Kit with 3/8-inch cable can be swapped to work on smaller lines with no tools needed. 800-328-8170; www.mytana.com.

Pipe Lining Supply Quik-Clean

The chain knockers are connected to a flexible, nylon-sheathed cable that is fully enclosed for cleanliness and can be easily wiped clean as it is pulled from the line. The fully contained unit also limits job site cross contamination. It can be operated by a foot switch in both vertical and horizontal positions and features a 1.5 hp internal universal motor for maximum power and in-field serviceability. It also allows for inspection cameras to remain in the pipe throughout the drain cleaning process for maximum efficiency. 800-474-3443; www.ridgid.com.

Root Control Chemicals

Duke’s Root Control RazoRooter II

Duke’s Root Control uses RazoRooter II, a thick, herbicide-laden foam with the consistency of shaving cream. Since effectively killing roots in sewer systems requires access to the entire line, Duke’s crew inserts a hose from manhole to manhole. The hose releases and sprays the foam in all directions, allowing it to adhere to roots and penetrate through wye connections to kill roots even in lateral lines. The entire system is treated as the foam compresses against pipe surfaces and penetrates cracks, joints and connecting sewers. Roots are killed on contact inside and outside the pipe walls before they decay naturally and slough away, with regrowth delayed for two to three years. Trees and other aboveground vegetation are not harmed. 800-447-6687; www.dukes.com.

RootX

RootX is designed to reduce the need for mechanical root control. Every component of a septic system can be treated with the chemical without the risk of machine failure or pipe damage to fight root intrusion. The mainline can be treated easily and effectively from a toilet or clean-out. Roots often penetrate tank, lid and riser seams, as well as baffle entries and exits. The chemical can be applied to the drainfield through a clean-out, distribution box or pressure system with special instructions. 800-844-4974; www.rootx.com.

Root Cutters

Picote Solutions Tiger Drill Chains

Tiger Drill Chains from Picote Solutions are equipped with an integrated front drill head to help push through tree roots, hard and soft blockages and lightly collapsed liners. Once through the blockage, its three links will continue to open up while it grinds away any rust, scale and deposits to bring the pipe back to its full diameter. The integrated front drill head is manufactured with hardened carbides for maximum aggression and efficiency to tackle even the toughest jobs. These newly designed chains are manufactured from 3.5 and 4.5 mm stainless steel links. They are used with the Picote Miller lineup for 3- to 10-inch pipes. They are designed to make quick, efficient work of unblocking, cleaning and descaling cast iron, clay and concrete pipes. 708-267-6366; www.picotesolutions.com.

Southland Tool S906M-1-AK

The S906M-1-AK root cutter motor from Southland Tool is built from the same platform as the S906M-1 motor but has an upgraded process for the internal parts that makes it smooth to turn, improving hydraulic performance and nearly eliminating internal corrosion. This process, known as “advanced kinetics,” uses a finish that improves the friction coefficient and allows parts to run smoother, which reduces drag, saves water and increases productivity. The metal becomes denser to ward off corrosion and wear. The cutter is designed for lines from 6 to 30 inches. The motor can accommodate hose sizes of 3/4, 1, 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inches and handles flows from 40 to 170 gpm and pressures from 1,500 to 3,000 psi. It is rated up to a maximum 288 pounds of torque and 220 pounds of continuous torque, which is ideal for cutting taps in larger sizes. 714-632-8198; www.southlandtool.com.
