When in need of a plumber, many people still take to the Yellow Pages or get a word-of-mouth recommendation. But with today’s available technology, the ways that customers can be connected to a plumbing company continue to expand.

If you view social media as an important way to communicate with potential clients, you’ll want to keep an eye on a new feature Facebook started rolling out last week. Facebook is adding a home services feature to its Marketplace section for U.S. users.

Since debuting in 2016, Facebook Marketplace has served as a classified ads section for people buying, selling, or giving away items. Now Facebook is opening it up so that people can use it to find and hire home services contractors. Facebook has partnered with Handy, HomeAdvisor and Porch to add the new feature.

“More people ask for recommendations related to home services on Facebook in the U.S. than any other topic,” Deb Liu, vice president of Facebook Marketplace, said in a statement.

People access the new feature by going to the Marketplace menu and selecting a service. They are then prompted with a series of questions in order to narrow search results and asked to enter a ZIP code. Facebook returns a list of companies that can complete the desired service request, accompanied with ratings and reviews.

The new Marketplace feature launched May 23 and will be available across the U.S. in the coming weeks, according to Facebook.
