Any time system maintenance can be automated in a commercial setting, the business owners are bound to thank you. That’s because time, of course, is money. To that end, Watts recently announced the launch of LOCKSMITH Commercial Softeners and Backwashing Filtration Systems featuring robust features, functionality and performance to meet the needs of virtually any commercial water treatment application. The units feature a LOCKSMITH controller that provides a simple, single platform engineered to streamline operations and system maintenance, eliminating the hassle of managing multiple platforms.

The commercial softeners and backwashing filtration systems are available on a broad range of 1.25-, 1.5- and 2-inch model options. The controller is highly configurable, with customizable programming that can be easily tailored to specific application needs. They are designed for ease of maintenance, reducing downtime with automatic service alerts and minimal moving parts, helping to ensure continuous operation and optimal performance. The systems are progressive flow capable, eliminating the need for costly additional system controllers, simplifying setup and reducing overall costs.

“Watts integrated the PCB/controller into an existing, industry-proven control valve platform as a new upgraded offering that is now our ‘core’ filter and softening system portfolio,” says Lisa Stich, Watts marketing manager. “The technology isn’t exactly ‘new’ to the world, though our previous product line was outdated and Locksmith brings us up to par plus a bit ahead of the competition.”

According to Stich, Watts conducted extensive voice-of-customer inputs. “We held formal focus groups with channel partners and end users to understand pain points, key feature needs and gaps they were experiencing with ours/competing offerings — and took that feedback into account when developing programming features and the product configurations needed in this offering.”

Watts product experts found that their commercial plumbing system installers appreciate the high-flow capabilities available in a small footprint. Also, according to Stich, the ability to use the same control valve across a range of sizes and system types is beneficial because it simplifies inventorying and business operations.

“These improvements also make it easy to understand and sell the technology from a channel perspective — one platform to learn for installation, programming, operating and servicing,” she says. “One platform addresses a wide range of customer applications and water quality requirements.”
